Shear is defined as a force that acts parallel or tangent to a surface to create sliding of one object with respect to another.
The thin and flexible FSA Shear sensors are used to investigate shear forces between the skin and support surfaces.
FSA Shear sensors are currently configured with a central 360 degree shear force sensing element surrounded by a 4 x 4 array of normal force sensing elements. The normal force sensor elements allow the pressure gradient to be displayed, which has been identified a a key component of the assessment of Shear.
Information provided indicates the direction of the forces and magnitude of the forces sensed. Multiple shear sensors can be applied to different locations and displayed simultaneously. FSA Shear sensors can be calibrated.
